SEO Features that Developers Neglected to Implement
Great website developers are not only good at designing websites, but they should also excel in SEO as well. However, not a lot of webmasters out there can do both. Most of them are only good at HTML, CSS, and Javascript. SEO is a completely different animal to them. When considering SEO, many of them would think SEO is all about backlinks or off page optimization. However, on page optimization is also another  part of SEO.

Following are features that most Web-Developers Neglected to Implement:

XML Sitemap

Most webmasters forgot to add XML sitemap after finished developing website. A good website developer knows how important XML sitemap can do when it comes to Google indexing. XML sitemap is basically a map that displays the structure of your website. You should always try to make Google spiders’ lives easier. If they are happy, they might rank your page  higher. You never know.

Robots.txt

Now, when it comes to manage a website, a good webmaster has clear ideas on which pages/files are meant to be indexed and which should  not. By utilizing Robots.txt, you basically set rules for spiders.

301 Redirect

Most webmasters ignore 401/404 errors, because they happen so often. Whenever a visitor types in wrong urls, 401/404 errors will return. Yes, basically, you can never prevent 401/404 errors unless you have a website that doesn’t have any traffic at all. A smart website developer will investigate further, and try to find out if it happens by accident or not. If it is not, then it will be best to find a page on your website that you want to redirect to, and then go to .htaccess and set the 301 redirect.

Canonicalization

Now, canonicalization is the term that most webmasters are not familiar with. So what does it actually mean? Well, when you type in url into your browser, you would either type in www.siteber.com or siteber.com. Canonicalization problem occurs when such two urls are displaying two completely different sites. The best practice is choose one domain that you want to stick with, and then do 301 redirect. In your eyes, you might think it doesn’t matter, but it does in Google’s eyes.

Speed

Speed is one of many ranking factors. It is the first impression when a visitor is landing on your page. In order to improve user experience, speed is the first thing that webmaster needs to improve. Now, there are many factors that might contribute the slowness: it might be your hosting server, coding issues, pictures, etc. Good webmasters are not only good at identifying the cause of the problem, they are also able to come up with solution that might improve the speed, such as utilizing CDN, refine codes, switching web hosting provider, etc.

If you know more seo features that developers failed to implement please share in comment below. Thanks.
