Everything to know about Favicons
You need a favicon if you have a website. For those who are not familiar with favicons, these are small square sized images that are associated with your websites. These are either a part of your logo, a alphabetical letter or any other thing related to your website. Favicons are appeared in all places like browser tools, bookmarks, address bars and tabs. Most popular browsers like opera, firefox, internet explorer and more are associated with favicons. Some examples are displayed as in image below.
Size of a Favicon
Images for favicons should be 16×16 pixels. You can also resize an existing photo, or generate a small image specifically for use as a favicon. When resizing a bigger photo to be this small, you may often lose essential details or end up with a fuzzy image. To avoid this, you will likely want to do some touch-up work after downsizing the larger photo. Or, just start with a 16×16 picture to avoid resizing issues on the whole.
What to show
Since you only have 256 pixels to work with, it can be a slightly challenging to know what to comprise in a favicon. Here are some common ideas:
- Use your logo or a part of it
- Use a stylized version of the first letter of your business name or site, If your logo doesn’t show well at such a small size
- Use an icon that communicates what your site does or represents (for example, Google Analytics uses a tiny chart for their favicon)
Image Format
As it is known as icon, so the image format for favicons must be .ico. In the past, it was aggravate to convert into this format. However, thanks to easy and free services, this is no longer the case. All you need to do is create a 16×16 image. The .ico format supports transparency, so you’re not limited to creating a square icon. If you want to take benefit of transparency, use the .gif or .png format when creating your image.
Miscellaneous notes
- Remember Internet Explorer does not play well with .png favicons image forma
- Internet Explorer 5 may only recognize favicons that are named “favicon.ico”.
- Internet Explorer 6 may only support the .ico format for favicons.

SEO Features that Developers Neglected to Implement
Great website developers are not only good at designing websites, but they should also excel in SEO as well. However, not a lot of webmasters out there can do both. Most of them are only good at HTML, CSS, and Javascript. SEO is a completely different animal to them. When considering SEO, many of them would think SEO is all about backlinks or off page optimization. However, on page optimization is also another part of SEO.
Following are features that most Web-Developers Neglected to Implement:
XML Sitemap
Most webmasters forgot to add XML sitemap after finished developing website. A good website developer knows how important XML sitemap can do when it comes to Google indexing. XML sitemap is basically a map that displays the structure of your website. You should always try to make Google spiders’ lives easier. If they are happy, they might rank your page higher. You never know.
Robots.txt
Now, when it comes to manage a website, a good webmaster has clear ideas on which pages/files are meant to be indexed and which should not. By utilizing Robots.txt, you basically set rules for spiders.
301 Redirect
Most webmasters ignore 401/404 errors, because they happen so often. Whenever a visitor types in wrong urls, 401/404 errors will return. Yes, basically, you can never prevent 401/404 errors unless you have a website that doesn’t have any traffic at all. A smart website developer will investigate further, and try to find out if it happens by accident or not. If it is not, then it will be best to find a page on your website that you want to redirect to, and then go to .htaccess and set the 301 redirect.
Canonicalization
Now, canonicalization is the term that most webmasters are not familiar with. So what does it actually mean? Well, when you type in url into your browser, you would either type in www.siteber.com or siteber.com. Canonicalization problem occurs when such two urls are displaying two completely different sites. The best practice is choose one domain that you want to stick with, and then do 301 redirect. In your eyes, you might think it doesn’t matter, but it does in Google’s eyes.
Speed
Speed is one of many ranking factors. It is the first impression when a visitor is landing on your page. In order to improve user experience, speed is the first thing that webmaster needs to improve. Now, there are many factors that might contribute the slowness: it might be your hosting server, coding issues, pictures, etc. Good webmasters are not only good at identifying the cause of the problem, they are also able to come up with solution that might improve the speed, such as utilizing CDN, refine codes, switching web hosting provider, etc.
If you know more seo features that developers failed to implement please share in comment below. Thanks.

Odds between white hat SEO and black hat SEO
The difference between a black hat and
white hat SEO can be determine based on what kind of techniques they are
using to improve and boost the search engine rankings of a website or a
web page.
SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
is a good chance to promote your website on any search engine results. It is a process of improving the visibility of a website on organic
("natural") search engine results, by
incorporating search engine friendly elements into a website. A
successful search engine optimization campaign will have, as part of the
improvements, carefully select, relevant, keywords which the on-page
optimization will be designed to make prominent for search engine
algorithms.
Black Hat SEO
Black hat SEO is the use of techniques
that are unacceptable to search engines to boost a page’s position in
search results. These techniques are intended to trick search engines
into giving pages higher positions in search results, and they have no
benefit to site visitors. The goal is to improve search engine result
positions no matter what it takes to do it.
Black hat SEO techniques are used for two reasons:
- They work — until search engines find out about them and they don’t work.
- Some people don’t understand that black hat SEO techniques can get their sites penalized by or banned from search engines.
Even if search engines can’t detect the black hat SEO techniques,
competitors of sites that employ black hat SEO techniques can spot them
and do report them to search engines.
Common Black Hat SEO Techniques
- Keyword stuffing
- Overusing keywords in comment tags, alt tags, and meta tags
- Placing keywords in hidden text (hidden from people, that is) by making their font color the same color as the page background
- Overusing keywords in visible text, to the point where their repetition is apparent to readers
- Doorway or gateway pages: pages that are stuffed with keywords but that only search engines see because people are redirected to the page with the real content
- Cloaking: displaying different content to search engines than to people by identifying visitors via IP or via other methods
- Link farms: pages with unrelated links solely for the purpose of creating more links to target pages
- Spamming forums, blogs, and other social media sites with links (search engines might not penalize sites for this, but it’s considered unethical)
White Hat SEO
White hat SEO is ethical SEO. It’s SEO
techniques that search engines accept. White hat SEO techniques are
beneficial for site visitors as well as for search engines. The goal of
white hat SEO is to improve search engine result positions via methods
that won’t cause search engines to penalize the site.
Successful white hat SEO is slower than black hat SEO and is an ongoing process.
Common White Hat SEO Techniques
- Researching relevant keywords, both short ail and long tail keywords
- Including keywords naturally in page titles, headings, link anchor text, other page content, and alt tags
- Studying analytics reports and fine-tuning the content to further optimize it for targeted keywords and to help direct traffic to relevant pages
- Adding fresh content regularly
- Using correct HTML markup (for example, heading tags) so that search engines can identify headings and other types of
- content correctly
- Making sure that all the code is valid (or at least won’t stop search engine bots)
- Creating site maps so that every page is linked to and search engine bots can crawl every page
- Using CSS to separate content from markup and thus increase keyword density by having less markup to crawl
- Creating quality content that other people will want to link to
- Asking to have directories and other relevant websites link to the site
- Optimizing pages for social media in the hopes of attracting social media links
- Arranging for link exchanges with relevant sites (considered by some to be gray hat SEO)
In the end after , White hat SEO, refers to use of good practice
methods to achieve high search engine rankings. They comply with search
engine guidelines. While Black hat SEO refers to attempts to improve
rankings in ways that are not approved by search engines and involve
deception.
